The North American programmer NBCUniversal (Comcast) has joined the big content producers who are launching their own OTTs. Apart from the already announced Disney+ (Disney), Apple TV+ (Apple) and HBO Max (WarnerMedia), now Peacock of NBCUniversal is joining. The new OTT will release in April 2020.
The company reported that the platform will have two types of service, one will be under subscription and the other will be supported by commercial advertisements (although it was not specified whether this second version will also be paid at a lower rate or not). They did not reveal prices and neither if the launch will be only for the United States or for other countries of the world.
NBCUniversal said that the OTT will have more than 15 thousand hours of content, having its own productions as its most summoning points, and that it will broadcast the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The name Peacock is a “homeage” to the NBC channel logo.
