Nexflix is testing a shuffle button that selects content on behalf of the user, according to TechCrunch website. The automatic choice made by the system makes it possible to play randomly selected content, which may be a movie or an episode of a series the subscriber is currently watching, content saved to his list or a title similar to some other the user has already seen. The feature, currently being tested on the Netflix app for TV devices, is available only to some subscribers from different countries around the world, including Spanish-speaking territories.
“We’re always looking for better ways to connect members with shows and films that they will love. We run these tests in different countries and for different periods of time, and only make them broadly available if people find them useful,” a Netflix spokesperson explained to TAVI Latam.
According to TechCrunch, Netflix has noted that the idea behind the function is to help viewers to quickly and easily find content that suits their tastes. In this way, the new feature makes the experience similar to watching traditional TV.
The button can be found on the profile selection screen just beneath the selected user icon, in the side menu of options once the user has accessed the profile and in the microsites of each title, provided that they have been chosen by using the shuffle button.
The new button is part of a series of tests by means of which Netflix seeks to streamline the selection of content to be played. The company had previously tested a button that allowed playing a random episode of some popular series and another button called “play something” on the navigation bar, which was similar to the new button.
