OTT platform Quibi launched in the United States and Canada on April 6. The service offers short audiovisual shows not exceeding ten minutes and it is designed to be viewed only on mobile phones.
According to information provided by the company, although the app can be downloaded in other countries (including several Latin American countries), only the U.S. version, in English with English and Spanish subtitles, is available. The plan is to expand the platform on an international scale, but no details have been disclosed yet.
Quibi offers movies, series, documentaries, entertainment shows and news programs, all of them ten minutes long or shorter. When the phone is rotated, the video automatically switches between landscape and portrait modes.
There are two monthly subscription plans. With ads, the price is USD 4.99, while the ad-free service costs USD 7.99. As a launch promotional strategy, Quibi is offering a 90-day free trial to those who sign up before April 20.
