Paramount+, Paramount Global’s streaming service, will no longer air the Premier League, the highest level of the English football league system, in Mexico and Central America. The announcement was made by Ricardo Sales, the main play-by-play sportscaster of Premier League matches aired on Paramount+, on his social networks. The streaming platform has been airing all the matches of the tournament for two years in the above-mentioned territories. The TV broadcasting rights agreement between Paramount Global and the Premier League will expire in one year’s time.

Neither Paramount nor the Premier League has made any official statament. The announcement made by Sales was followed by farewell messages by some of his colleagues, among whom it is worth mentioning Christian Elguea, the main sports analyst covering Premier League encounters on Paramount+.

Given the lack of official information and the absence of details in Sales’s announcement, it is still unknown what course of action Paramount Global will take regarding the year during which the agreement will remain in force. It may make use of the broadcasting rights to air the matches on any other of its screens or it may grant sublicenses to others. Otherwise, Paramount Global and the Premier League will have to terminate the agreement.
