After an absence of more than four years, Mexican comedian Chespirito’s (Roberto Gómez Bolaños) shows, such as El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado, are to be aired on TV channels and streaming platforms in Latin America and throughout the world. Florinda Meza, the late comedian’s wife, announced the news on September 7. The first to confirm the airing of the above-mentioned shows was UniMás, a Spanish-language US channel owned by TelevisaUnivision. The kick-off date is September 23. (*)

Historically aired on Televisa’s channels in Mexico, Chespirito’s shows were internationally distributed by the company itself, which later became TelevisaUnivision. However, Chespirito Group, managed by Gómez Bolaños’ son Roberto Gómez Fernández, failed to reach an agreement with Televisa in 2020 and, as a result, international distribution of the shows came to a halt. No channel or platform has broadcast Chespirito’s shows officially since then.

More detailed information is awaited on the agreement and the distribution of the shows. So far, the only channel in the world that has announced the airing of El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado is UniMás. In addition, the US channel has advertised that Vix, a streaming platform owned by TelevisiónUnivision that is accessible throughout Latin America and the United States, will also offer episodes of the shows, though only within the United States for the time being.

Update 9-10-2024: On September 10, TelevisaUnivision officially announced the airing of Chespirito’s shows in Mexico and throughout Spanish-speaking Latin America, as well as in the United States (information already known). All the episodes will be available on the OTT as from September 18. According to the announcement, it will also be possible to view the shows on Free To Air TV channel Las Estrellas (Televisa), which is to air two episodes daily Monday thru Friday as from September 16.
