As planned, the acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) by Paramount, whose owner is Skydance Media, was completed on October 6. As a result, the two giants of the audiovisual industry become a single company, which has been called Skydance. One of the key points of the announcement is the decision to unify the streaming services of each brand, Paramount+ and HBO Max, into one single platform.

Skydance has not given any detail about the way in which the unification of Paramount+ and HBO Max will be carried out. Neither has it disclosed what the new platform will be like or when it will be launched. All that has been revealed is that the unification will be implmented “over time”.

According to the press release, “the transaction closed following receipt of all required regulatory approvals under the merger agreement and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.” The deal, which was pitched in February 2026, was on the order of USD 111 billion. It was on that same October 6 that the mytical Warner Bros. water tower logo began to appear with a tagline reading: “A Skydance Corporation”.

The new company will be managed by David Ellison. According to the press release, “the combined company, Skydance, brings together two major film studios, two global streaming services, premier television assets including CBS, HBO, and Paramount’s and WBD’s cable networks, two of the industry’s most recognized news networks, CBS News and CNN, and a leading content portfolio that includes live sports, a deep programming library and expansive collection of iconic brands and franchises.” The new Skydance, its content and brands will reach over 200 territories worldwide.

The press release also includes the following information: “WBD’s common stock has ceased trading on the Nasdaq Exchange, effective today. The Ellison Family holds the largest equity stake in Skydance (NYSE: SKYD), and the Ellison Family and RedBird Capital Partners (“RedBird”) together are the sole holders of Paramount Class A Common Stock, including 100% of the combined company’s voting shares.”
