Although the news has not been officially announced by audiovisual company Turner (WarnerMedia), Chile’s Canal del Fútbol (CDF) (soccer channel) will soon be renamed as TNT Sports, the brand used by the company for its premium channel in Argentina. On January 4, Turner announced in Chile’s Official Newspaper that it “had amended the company’s by-laws in order to add the following assumed names: TNT Sports and TNT Sports HD.” Chilean web site El Filtrador and local newspaper La Cuarta have reported that the change will be effective on January 17, when the sports network is to broadcast the most important local soccer rivalry match: Colo Colo vs. Universidad de Chile.
CDF broadcasts all the Chilean soccer top division matches live through a pay TV premium package. In addition, its own streaming service CDF Estadio plays a double role: TV Everywhere (for those Pay TV users who have signed up to CDF package) and OTT for direct-to-consumer subscription.
The Chilean press and social networks have been speaking about the change of name since early 2019. In late 2020, TAVI Latam asked Turner in this respect, but the company made no comments. Some days ago, the new TNT Sports’ new logo transpired.
El Filtrador and La Cuarta have also remarked that some matches of the Chilean tournament will begin to be aired on Turner channels in Argentina and Brazil.
