Waiken ILW, a holding owned by Argentine Grupo Werthein, has entered the mobile market in Brazil. The launch of Sky Móvel has been announced by the company that owns Sky Brasil, which will deliver the service as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) and will become a triple play carrier with the addition of the new service, since it already provides Pay TV and home Internet services, in the latter case under the Zaas brand.
Initially, Sky Móvel will be offered in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. After its launch on April 6 there will be stages, in the first of which only current Sky postpaid Pay TV customers will be given the possibility of signing up. In late April, the offering will be expanded to include Zaas subscribers and new Pay TV users. According to a press release issued by the company, “sales to the Brazilian market at large will be made in May.”
“Waiken ILW advances in Brazil with an integrated proposal combining Zaaz’s máximum speed and stability fiber optic connectivity with a solid offering of entertainment, information and sports through Sky and Sky+, and at the same time we celebrate our entry into a highly competitive mobile phone market, with 270 million active lines,” said Waiken ILW President Darío Werthein.
The new mobile service will offer 4G and 5G coverage. There will be 6, 15, 30 and 50 GB plans and monthly prices will range from BRL 29.90 to BRL 89.90 (from USD 6 to USD 17 approximately). As a special benefit, there will be a launch offer granting a 50% discount for the first three months.
The move marks Waiken ILW’s and Grupo Werthein’s second foray into the mobile market. In mid 2025, the mobile service was launched in Colombia through operator DirecTV (DirecTV Móvil). According to the holding’s spokespeople, “the company expects to adopt similar models in other markets in the region.”
