As reported by Chilean telecommunications operator Entel, the company ceased to sell its Satellite TV service (DTH) to new subscribers in the third quarter of 2021. Existing users will continue receiving the service for the time being.
Entel spokespeople have explained that the company is focusing its efforts on the IPTV service. It is important to note that since 2020 Entel has been selling a streaming Pay TV service that may be used with Internet provided by any company. As at the close of 3Q 2021, the aggregate number of customers encompassing the three services provided by the operator was 172,000.
In Chile, a similar course of action was followed by Movistar (Telefónica), which ceased to offer its DTH service to make way for IPTV and streaming Pay TV. Other Chilean Satellite TV operators such as DirecTV, Claro and TuVes, keep selling DTH service.
