On April 5, audiovisual company ViacomCBS announced that it had acquired Chilean Free-To-Air channel Chilevisión from WarnerMedia, a division of AT&T. The local press had been reporting the preliminary negotiations since last year.
“The acquisition comprises all Chilevisión’s brands and assets,” according to information provided by the purchasing company. Chilevisión will fall under the leadership of Juan JC Acosta, President of ViacomCBS International Studios and Networks Americas.
ViacomCBS highlighted that Chilevisión would allow the company to bolster its “streaming business” (Paramount+ and Pluto TV), to offer “even more diverse entertainment options” to consumers and distribution partners and “to create an aligned commercial, content and distribution strategy.” Within the Latin American Free-To-Air market, ViacomCBS is already the owner of Argentina’s Telefé (Canal 11).
The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approvals. The transaction amount has not been disclosed.
