Pay TV and Internet provider DirecTV has formally entered a new segment: mobile services. On August 25 it officially launched its own offering in Colombia as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) using the network developed by Tigo (an operator owned by Millicom and Empresas Públicas Medellín). TAVI Latam reported the initiative in July 2025.

Branded as DirecTV Móvil, the new service offers phone services and mobile connectivity using 4G and 5G networks on a nationwide scale. Three packages are available, all of which offer no minute limit domestic calls and no limit domestic SMSs. The monthly prices are COP 39,900 (USD 10) for the 55 Gb plan, COP 59,900 (USD 15) for the 110 Gb pack and COP 99,900 (USD 25) for the 150 Gb option.

DirecTV’s spokespeople noted: “The launch bolsters the company’s value proposition by adding a new business line to its current portfolio, which includes Pay TV, streaming, insurance, financial services, strategic partnerships (e.g. with Amazon Prime Video) and corporate travel agency Mundea.”

DirecTV mobile service is available only to the company’s Pay TV customers. According to information provided by the operator, “It is possible for users to activate their lines in just a few minutes, to keep their existing numbers thanks to portability, as well as to make payments rapidly through Nequi, Daviplata and PSE.”

DirecTV had been testing the new service for the previous few months, first with its own staff, then with a restricted number of users and finally with a broader group.
