The National Association of Television Program Executives (Natpe), based in the United States, has announced its decision to cancel its traditional January convention, known as the Natpe Global Conference and Marketplace. The 2023 edition was to be held in Nassau, Bahamas, for the first time ever, following ten years in which the host city had been Miami.
Natpe, which has organized many of the most significant global scale exhibitions related to the audiovisual industry, announced in early October that it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in order to reorganize its debts and assets. At the same time, the association confirmed that the Bahamas event would take place, but on October 26 it issued a press release to communicate its decision to cancel the convention.
The association did not give any additional explanation about its change of mind. According to the US specialized press, many companies had not shown enough interest in the event after knowing that it would be held in Bahamas.
Natpe said that no resolution had been taken so far as to the Budapest event or any other gathering scheduled to take place in 2023.
