Mexican former soccer player Miguel Layún has announced an agreement that will make it possible to stream soccer club América’s home games on several digital platforms for free. The agreement involves the soccer club and Televisa, the Mexican audiovisual company holding broadcasting rights for América’s home games. Televisa will go on airing the matches live on its screens (Free-To-Air TV, Pay TV and streaming), but at the same time Layún will be in charge of a separate broadcast, which will be freely available on YouTube and TikTok through Televisa’s sports brand TUDN’s account, as well as on Kick, Twitch and Facebook through Layún’s accounts @layvtime.
The news was announced by Layún on his social media. He seeks to offer a type of broadcast different from the traditional one. That is the reason why there will be no official sportscasters, there will be background sound and the commentary will be done by Layún himself and guest celebrities.
“Disruptive ideas and the wish for innovation have always driven me to think out of the box, to realize that everything is possible if you focus on the solution, and that is what I have done in the last few years,” noted Layún on his social media when he described how this project was born. Then he added: “Lavy Time will become the first MX league match to be streamed on digital platforms other than TV stations.”
In order to keep the youngest audience’s attention, this new strategy is undoubtedly a significant step as far as sports broadcasting is concerned. “I am proud and convinced that this is just the beginning of the process of reconnection with young audiences,” concluded Layún.
The debut is to take place on January 16, when América receives Tijuana for the second matchweek of the Mexican league.
