Caliente TV, a channel owned by Mexican betting platform Caliente, announced on August 14 that it had acquired rights to broadcast Champions League (the most important European soccer club tournament) matches in the Mexican market. By virtue of the agreement, Caliente TV is to broadcast half of the matches. In fact, all the games played on Wednesdays will be aired by Caliente TV, while those games played on Tuesdays will be aired by Warner Bros. Discovery, under the umbrella of TNT Sports, on its OTT Max and its Pay TV channel TNT.
The agreement obtained by Caliente TV enters into force this month. The betting platform’s channel has been awarded broadcast rights for 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons. It will air a total of 109 matches in each season, including the tournament’s final.
Caliente TV broadcasts of Champions League matches are to kick off on August 21, with the broadcast of matches in the last stage of playoffs to qualify for the league phase. For the current 2024/25 season, the Champions League has adopted a new format. Now 36 teams, instead of 32, will take part in the first phase, which will include eight games instead of six, as it used to be.
Although Caliente TV broadcasts have so far been free on YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Twitter and Caliente’s website, the betting platform has announced that the Champions League will be accessible through its new app, which is available on iOS and Android devices.
This year Caliente TV is intent on advancing steadily in the segment of sport events broadcast rights. It has already begun to air the home matches played by Mexican soccer teams Tijuana Xolos and Querétaro Gallos (both in Liga MX, Mexico’s soccer top division). Besides, it has acquired a license to air Ligue 1, France’s soccer league, and has added other sporting events, such as women’s Liga MX encounters and NFL (US football league) preseason games.
