Vix, the Spanish-speaking streaming service owned by international media company TelevisaUnivision, has entered into an agreement with international e-commerce giant Mercado Libre. The agreement will make it possible for all Mercado Libre users to subscribe to Vix premium plan (the platform’s paid tier) directly and easily as well as to access benefits. In this way, the e-commerce website is widening its streaming offering.
Those users who sign up to Vix through Mercado Libre in Mexico will be granted a 15% discount in the monthly fee to be paid for the OTT service, while for those who subscribe to Meli+, Mercado Libre’s loyalty program, the discount will amount to 30%. The Spanish-language content offered by Vix in Spanish-speaking Latin America and in the US Hispanic market includes series, soap operas, sports, movies, kid-focused shows, with frequent releases and a total of 75,000 hours of on-demand content, coupled with almost 100 linear channels.
This is not the first time Mercado Libre has entered into agreements of this kind. It is engaged in the commercialization of HBO Max, Paramount+, Disney+ and Star+ not only in Mexico but also in several other Latin American countries. Mercado Libre adopted the strategy of adding streaming platforms in mid-2020 when it struck a deal with HBO. In addition to agreements with third parties’ OTTs, the company also has its own service, which is called Mercado Play.
TelevisaUnivision Streaming Partnerships and Global Distribution Executive Vicepresident Adam Waltuch noted that the agreement with Mercado Libre México will make it possible for Vix to strengthen its positioning and expansion strategy. At the same time, Mercado Libre Customer Loyalty Senior Director Victoria Bluthgen asserted: “We are glad to add Vix to Mercado Libre’s value proposal in Mexico so as to keep offering our users more and better benefits while they go on enjoying on-line shopping.”
