América Móvil announced on July 20 an agreement for the acquisition of one of its competitors in the Peruvian market. The telecommunications company has acquired 100% of the capital stock of fiber-optic Internet and phone services operator WOW, which has an important network in several regions of Peru, mainly in places other than capital city Lima, and is owned by Liberty Latin America (LLA) and Narvik Capital Partners.

The deal will allow América Móvil, which operates under the Claro brand in Peru, to strengthen its leadership within the Peruvian fixed Internet segment. For the last few quarters, the company has been battling for leadership with Movistar, owned by Integratel (Integra Capital). According to statistics published by Osiptel (entity in charge of overseeing private investment in telecommunications), as at the first quarter of 2026 Claro had 1.11 million fixed Internet users, Movistar had 1.03 million and WOW ranked fourth with 500,000 customers. The third position was held by Win, which had 800,000 subscribers.

“The close of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory conditions, including approval by National Agency for Competition Defense and Intellectual Property Protection,” stated América Móvil in its press release. The acquiring company has neither revealed the total amount of the deal nor explained what will become of the WOW brand.
