During a panel session entitled Challenges Faced by the Industry in the Digital Era held on the first day of Jornadas Internacionales 2019, Telecom CEO Carlos Moltini asserted that ARPUs (Editor’s note: Average Revenue per User) in dollars make it impossible to sustain the investment demanded by consumers.”

Along the same line as ATVC President Walter Burzaco and Cappsa President Sergio Veiga at Jornadas Internacionales 2019 opening session, Moltini asked the government for foreseeability to allow long-term investments.

As an example, Telecom CEO recounted that when the company merged with Cablevisión, a three-year 5,000 million investment plan was outlined but Argentina’s economic instability would make it impossible for them to fulfill it.

“OTTs are stressing the network and therefore it requires a hefty amount of investment. Overnight, they shift from SD to HD, from HD to 4K and then to 8K,” noted Moltini, who insisted that OTT platforms “do not invest a cent” in the modernization of the networks.

Another member of the panel was DirecTV Argentina (AT&T) CEO Manuel Abelleyra, who highlighted the commitment of the satellite TV company to make all content available to customers on all screens. According to Abelleyra: “the preference of customers is clearly oriented towards streaming; younger generations do not fancy the idea of watching linear TV.”
