Telecommunications giant DirecTV (Grupo Werthein) has just launched its own mobile phone service in Colombia. As TAVI Latam could find out from company sources, the new service is operating in a beta phase for the time being and is using the network developed by Tigo (an operator owned by Millicom and Empresas Públicas Medellín). In this way, DirecTV takes its first steps as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in the Colombian market.

According to the information obtained by TAVI Latam, DirecTV first tested the new mobile service with 50 employees. Having been successful, the test was then expanded to a limited group of customers. The offering that has just been launched, only available to the company’s Pay TV subscribers, represents a further step in the process.

Three packages are available within the new service, which is called DirecTV Móvil. The three of them offer no minute limit domestic calls and no limit domestic SMSs. The monthly prices are COP 39,900 (USD 10) for the 55 Gb plan, COP 59,900 (USD 15) for the 110 Gb pack and finally COP 99,900 (USD 25) for the 150 Gb option.
