Venezuelan Pay TV and Internet operator Supercable deactivated its equipment on August 18, which marked the permanent cessation of its operations. Following notification to its customers earlier that day, the company actually shut down its services. Previously, in March 2025, Venezuela’s Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (Conatel) had revoked the operator’s license. The attempts made by the company’s authorities to have the resolution reversed were unsuccessful.

Supercable used to be a leading operator in Venezuela, though it has no longer been among the most important ones in the last few years. The first Pay TV operator and the first to offer fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) Internet connection in Venezuela, it had over 30 years’ experience in the market. As at December 2023, the company had around 20,000 Pay TV users and 250 employees. According to information provided by the Venezuelan press, this is the first time a telecommunications license has been revoked in the country.

The license was revoked owing to “serious irregularities” that resulted in an “infringement on users’ rights”. According to Conatel, Supercable had on occasion (time was not specified) discontinued its services without prior notice to the regulatory agency or its customers.
