Brazilian audiovisual giant Globo is working to create a short-form video platform of its own with a view to competing with TikTok and Kwai, both recognized as leaders of the segment in Brazil. The initiative was reported by local newspaper Folha de S.Paulo, according to which it was the company that confirmed the news.
The new platform, whose tentative name is Globopop, will be free and ad-supported. It will offer classic viral videos and diversity of content developed by various creators, as well as Globo’s exclusive productions, such as “novelinhas”, short soap operas the company has been creating since 2025.
Having been working on the project since last year, Globo intends to launch the platform before half-2026. The aim is to take full advantage of the great amount of content related to the FIFA World Cup (to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada in June-July 2026) and Brazilian viewers’ avid interest in the soccer tournament.
