Argentina’s telecommunications market was taken by surprise on August 31 when Telecentro, which is one of the most relevant operators in the country with extensive coverage in the city of Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area providing fixed Internet, phone and Pay TV services, reached an agreement for the acquisition of ISP Iplan, a fixed Internet provider with a far lower subscriber base (as at mid-2025 it had 100,000 users within the home segment) operating mainly in the city of Buenos Aires (it has over 1 million homes passed nationwide). The scoop was published by digital outlet Infobae.

When TAVI Latam contacted Iplan communications team for confirmation of the news, their answer was the following: “The information is not accurate. The company has not issued any official press release yet. As soon as we have it, we will make it known through our spokespeople.”

Regardless of the official answer given by Iplan, TAVI Latam has learned from sources close to the ISP that it is true that a deal has been reached for the acquisition. However, it has been impossible to get information about the details, the terms and the timeframe of the agreement.

According to Infobae, Telecentro, whose main shareholder is Alberto Pierri, will disburse USD 260 million to complete the transaction, which will close in one month’s time. Telecentro is to get a loan from three banks: ICBC, Banco Galicia and Banco Santander.
