Netflix takes a new step within the live sports segment. The streaming giant’s new proposal is a boxing fight between US former boxer Mike Tyson and US influencer Jake El Gallo Paul. The event is scheduled for next July 20 and will be aired live for the whole world exclusively by Netflix.
Netflix entered the live sports segment with an exhibition golf tournament pairing professional golfers and Formula 1 drivers. The following step was a friendly tennis match between two of today’s top-ranking players: Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. As was the case on the above-mentioned occasions, Netflix is the organizer of the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. For the time being, such is the strategy adopted by the OTT regarding live sports, instead of acquiring rights to broadcast official competitions.
For the organization of the event, Netflix has partnered with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), a sports promotion company managed by Jake Paul himself. The fight is to take place at AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas, USA), the home of the Dallas Cowboys, an NFL team.
“Mike Tyson is one of the biggest icons in boxing history and Jake Paul is one of the biggest disruptors in boxing history,” noted Gabe Spitzer, Vice President, Nonfiction Sports, Netflix.
