The content producer Lunes of Chile agreed with the rights owners (World Editors Chile) the realization of two animated series based on the famous comic Condorito, according to the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio. The series could be watched throughout Latin America on Discovery Channel, as both parties are “negotiating”.

The first series to release will be designed for children between 4 and 7 years and will also have multiplatform content (capsules for the Internet, a video game and a mobile application). It will be focused on the character of Coné, Condorito’s nephew. For this project, Lunes is working together with the Argentine production company Caramba.

The second one will be for an audience older than 12 years and, although the main character will be Condorito, stories of many secondary characters in the comic will be developed. For this series, the Chilean company would work with the Mexican Ánima, responsible for the animated series El Chavo del 8 and El Chapulín Colorado.

“We have been wanting to do something with Condorito for a long time,” Lunes’ Director, José Ignacio Navarro, told El Mercurio. The first project had been the production of the film, which finally finished in the hands of the Peruvian producer Pajarraco Films.

Condorito is a comic created by Chilean cartoonist René Ríos Boettiger, alias Pepo, and was first published in 1949. Given the great popularity of the character, the first television versions were recorded in the 1980s.
