Media giant Fox Corporation has acquired Tigo Sports, a sports channel network owned by telecommunications operator Tigo (Millicom), as the stepping stone to the launch of its own sports network under the Fox brand in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, as it has already done in the Mexican market. The transaction includes sports events broadcasting rights held by Tigo Sports, its production network and its team of reporters. The brand Tigo Sports is not included, since it will remain under the ownership of Tigo for the coverage of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, to cite an example.
Following the acquisition, Fox Corp. will launch Fox as a sports network in the above-mentioned countries in May, with four Pay TV channels at the beginning. In addition, Fox content will be available on free streaming platform Tubi (AVOD) and “in the future” it will also be available on premium Pay TV channel Fox+ (already operating in Mexico), as well as on paid OTT service Fox One (also already in operation in Mexico).
In this way, the new sports network will debut in Central America with a robust portfolio of local sports broadcasting rights: El Salvador’s Soccer First Division, Panama’s Soccer League, home matches to be played by several teams within Costa Rica’s Liga Promerica and by several teams within Guatemala’s Liga Bantrab. Moreover, “top-rating” original shows featuring talent from each country will be produced.
The local content described above will be combined with the international portfolio of rights already owned by Fox in the region: England’s Premier League (50% of the games), UEFA Europa League (a selection of matches), Bundesliga (starting 2026/27 season), Saudi Pro League (three games on each matchday) and Mexico’s Liga MX (some teams). In addition, Fox is the owner of rights to broadcast events across other sports disciplines, including MLB (baseball), PFL (mixed martial arts), AAA (wrestling), Nascar Cup Series (motor racing), Formula E (motor racing), WRC (motor racing) and WEC (motor racing).
