Telecommunications company Telefónica de Chile has announced that its streaming platform Movistar Play may be signed up for by non-customers. The only plan available to non-customers is Full, which offers 55 Free To Air and Pay TV linear channels and a wide VOD library. The only method non-customers may use to pay for this service is credit card.
The move shows that Telefónica has decided to penetrate the OTT Pay TV market thoroughly. The only country where the company has launched this proposal so far is Chile.
Movistar Play Full plan offers a seven-day free trial period and its monthly price is USD 13.6. Its line-up includes Free To Air local channels and the main Pay TV channels, such as Cartoon Network, CNN, Disney Channel, Espn, Fox Sports, Star Channel, MTV, Nickelodeon, Space, TNT, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids and Atreseries. According to Telefónica, the channels included in this plan “concentrate 95% of TV audience” in Chile. In addition, it is possible to sign up for the premium packages: HBO, Star Premium, TNT Sports HD and Fox Sports Premium.
“We are delighted to take a further step forward regarding on line TV, which grew considerably throughout 2020. With Movistar Play, everybody will have easy access to the best of TV without STBs or service installation,” noted Movistar Chile Marketing Manager Rosario Fernández Saavedra.
