On March 6, Sony Music Entertainment, a Sony Entertainment division, issued a press release announcing a partnership with Lionel Messi for the production of the Argentine soccer player’s first own animated series. The agreement was entered into between the Japanese company and Leo Messi Management, a company owned by the Argentine star that proposed the original idea behind the project.

According to the description given by Sony Music, “The series will depict Messi as a child as he confronts obstacles while traveling throughout a video game.” Designed to be distributed throughout the world, the production will be available in English, Spanish and several other languages. The target audience comprises children and young teenagers.

“It is a privilege for Sony Music to collaborate with Lionel Messi on this project to showcase the power and lessons of sports in partnership with the greatest football player of all time and one of the greatest athletes in history,” said Fernando Cabral, Executive Vice President, Business Development, Latin-Iberia Regional, Sony Music Entertainment. In the press release, Sony Music states that it will oversee the development and distribution of the series. According to US news website Deadline, “no network or streamer is currently attached.”
