Grupo Werthein’s Vrio division revealed that the number of subscribers of its streaming Pay TV services DGo and Sky+ had broken the 2 million barrier in July. The information was disclosed on August 12 by Sky Brasil CEO Gustavo Fonseca during Pay-TV Forum, a conference organized by specialized websites TelaViva and TeleTime, which was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Vrio operates the following Satellite TV companies: Sky in Brazil and DirecTV in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. In addition, it offers two streaming platforms: Sky+ in Brazil and DGo in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico. The above mentioned OTTs provide both TV Everywhere and streaming Pay TV services. The 2 million figure includes only the latter.
Fonseca said that they had experienced significant growth in the streaming Pay TV segment over the last year and that their customer base had doubled.
According to Sky Brasil CEO, one of their objectives is to seek agreements with other streaming services in order to incorporate them, which enhances user experience. He mentioned, among others, the example of Netflix, which has already been integrated into their traditional Pay TV set-top-box but has not been included in Sky+ yet.
